Sunlit Shark - Explore the Lifting Technique in Watercolor

  • Welcome to this advanced watercolour class that will take your skills to new depths! In this captivating course “Sunlit Shark - Explore the Lifting Technique in Watercolour”, we'll explore the mesmerizing beauty of a sunlit shark underwater. Get ready to unlock the secrets of painting this majestic creature and learn two of my favourite techniques that will help you to uplift your watercolour paintings by making them look a bit more refined and professional.       • The difference between staining and non-staining pigments and how to use them in our paintings.

      • Two of my favourite colour combinations of non-staining pigments, that you can use with the lifting technique.

      • How to transfer your sketch onto your watercolour paper, without leaving unnecessary scratches and graphite smudges. 

      • How to use clean film to create stunning backgrounds for your watercolour paintings and when to use it.

      • How to apply the lifting technique in combination with the cling film backgrounds, so you are creating the feeling of a light reflecting over the skin of your animal.

Tropical Watercolour Seascapes: Learn to Compose Your Own Summer Paintings

  • Welcome to a watercolor adventure that’s perfect for beginners and intermediate artists alike! In this class, you’ll learn how to create stunning tropical seascapes featuring distant islands, palm trees, and the calming blues of the ocean. Even if you’ve never painted with watercolors before, don’t worry—I’ll guide you every step of the way, starting with the basics and gradually building up your skills.

    This class is packed with valuable insights and practical techniques, broken down into three major parts:

    1. Composing a Painting: We’ll begin with the essentials. You’ll learn about basic watercolor techniques like wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry, and dry-brushing. I’ll also cover loose watercolor techniques for a more relaxed style, as well as key principles of perspective and composition. You’ll discover how to mix colors effectively to avoid muddy results and how to create a harmonious, cohesive painting that really comes together.

    2. Exercises: Once you’ve grasped the basics, it’s time to get hands-on! We’ll work through a series of exercises designed to help you practice and refine your skills. You’ll paint four simple skies that set different moods for your seascapes, and explore how to depict distant islands in varying levels of detail. We’ll also cover how to draw and paint different types of palm trees. These exercises are not just about practice—they’re about building your confidence and preparing you for more complex work.

    1. Paint-Along Projects: We’ll start each project with a simple pencil sketch, outlining the horizon line, distant islands, palm trees, and any other elements in the scene. You’ll learn how to paint each part separately, allowing the paint to dry before moving on to the next section.
